Airline Qualification Course (AQC)

Intermediate Pilot Training - gaining jet aircraft experience

After the first 3 stages of selection, you will be invited to attend CTC's AQC (Airline Qualification Course) - a three-week ground school and simulator-based training course incorporating MCC (Multi Crew Co-operation course) at our Crew Training Centres at Dibden and Nursling (both of which are near to Southampton on the south coast of the UK). This is the stage at which we bring CTC Wings Cadet and CTC Wings ATP pilots together to train side by side. It is also the fourth and final stage of selection for CTC Wings ATP applicants.

This phase of the programme is hands-on, airline-focussed training using state-of-the-art Boeing and Airbus technology to give you the skills you need to manage a commercial flight deck and operate today's advanced jet aircraft in a multi-crew, IFR environment.

What makes CTC's AQC unique is the face that it combines the regulatory MCC certificate process with an airline standard Initial CRM (Crew Resource Management) syllabus and and advanced handling skills programme - a full 16 hours additional simulator time - to ensure you are fully prepared for your airline type rating when the opportunity arises.

On successful completion of the AQC course you will be the proud owner of an MCC certificate - a vital step along the path to flying for a commercial airline. Those who also meet the CTC Wings standard during AQC will be placed on our unique CTC Wings ATP database awaiting the Advanced phase of training - your type rating - and subsequent placement with a partner airline.

Advanced Training

Advanced Training - take to the skies with our partner airlines

This stage is subject to airline placement.

In the final and most exciting phase of your CTC Wings Cadet or ATP training, you get a real taste of what your new career holds as you work closely with one of our world-class partner airlines. Advanced pilot training incorporates type rating, aircraft base training, line training and line experience and, once you've proved yourself in the flight deck, you'll graduate as a fully qualified airline pilot.

The terms for commencing your type rating can vary from airline to airline depending on their requirement level.  It may be that there will be additional costs involved at this stage and details of the current terms on offer will be discussed openly with you as and when opportunities arise.

When you reach this point you might find you complete this final phase with CTC or your partner airline, either in the UK or overseas - whichever way, you will now be ready to start flying as a First Officer with your airline.

Please note:  The CTC Wings ATP database augments the CTC Wings Cadet hold pool. Pilots on the CTC Wings ATP database will be called up for type ratings when we do not have enough cadets ready and available for type rating.

Completed by your airline, this is the first time you will fly the commercial airliner. Normally a minimum of 6 take-offs and landings. This takes approximately 8 months. Your first flight with passengers, then 40 to 50 flights with a Training Captain until you are cleared as a First Officer. Thereafter, you build hours and experience 'flying the line'.
